Summary
In the previous project , I analyzed the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement as a whole, such as the protests, the meaning behind BLM, etc. For the second Apollo project, I narrowed in further on the movement focusing on the deaths of black women at the hands of the police. Also, I focused on the oppression of black women and how police brutality may play a role. I researched all aspects of the matter, creating the following questions to organize the information I found :
This project become personal for I feel as though I could see myself through each case I came across. As in the last project, I fully grasped the magnitude and impact of BLM in bringing justice to those to affected by police brutality.
- Why is this issue not discussed as much as it should be?
- Why is there little to no media amplification on the issue?
- How can we prevent these incidents from further occurring?
- What role does the U.S justice system play in this matter?
- What laws are in place that should protect and provide justice for the victims?
This project become personal for I feel as though I could see myself through each case I came across. As in the last project, I fully grasped the magnitude and impact of BLM in bringing justice to those to affected by police brutality.
ENGLISH
For the English portion of the project, I analyzed oppressors of black women such as slavery, police brutality, and sexism. I also analyzed how these oppressors have varied from the the past to present-day. I wrote an informative essay that presented and throughly explained all of my research on the topic.
Initially, I did not not know what content would be incorporated within this informative piece.
How would I include all of the information in which I gathered?
How would I keep the essay organized and concise while also explaining the topic thoroughly?
I decided to meet with my Apollo English teacher, Mr. Wes Ward, to help organize the way in which I will write this piece. After a few days of revision and edits, I narrowed down in writing about the oppression of black women and influencing factors from in the past, present- day, and factors that could have an impact in the future.

Social Studies
For the social studies aspect of the project, I analyzed the deaths of black women at the hands of the police. More specifically, I gathered researched well-know and unknown police brutally cases of black women.
Initially, I did not know how I would organize all of information on these cases. After much brainstorming and meeting with my social studies Apollo teacher, Mr. Greg Wimmer, I decided to use Diigo (an online site used for annotation of websites) and create an outliner to organize the information.

English Snippet
Down below is a snippet from my informative essay titled "The Voices of the Unheard" :
"The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman." So said Malcolm X in 1962, a notable figure during the civil rights movement of the 1960s (Jones). These words have continued to resonate almost 60 years later, being one of the most referred to quotes regarding the treatment of black women around the world. In America, specifically, the mistreatment and oppression of this group is an issue not discussed nearly enough. There are numerous factors that have contributed to this oppression from in the past, present-day, and even future factors that will have an everlasting effect on black women ("Thelilynews")."

The Final Product
For the final product of this project, I created a 5 minute film to further summarize all that I gathered over the past three weeks. Although this video covers the mainly of the social studies aspect, the English aspect is included through my analysis of how police violence (an oppressor of women of color) has impacted young black girls, and black women.

Thinking Skill: Perspective
Formal Definition: A specific attitude toward or a way of something; a point of view.
Connection to "The Voices of the Unheard" :
I incorporated the thinking skill perspective through analyzing the following two viewpoints on police brutally against black women: the family of victims, and the general public.
The Family: I researched and analyzed numerous articles and media to gain the perspectives of families,. I found that the majority felt not only are their voices not being heard but their loved ones( victims of police brutality) as well. Many families have been fighting for the justice of those taken from them for months, to years and even decades. They see that black women are often neglected when it comes to including them in the conversation and movement against police brutality I included this point of view within the film "Voices of the Unheard."
Down below is the timestamp and description of an example of this:
The General Public: I researched and analyzed numerous articles and media to gain the perspective of the public. I found that many individuals had recently taken notice to how police violence against black women goes unnoticed. The BLM Movement and protests of 2020 brought awareness to this issue. The term "#SayHerName" would often be used within these demonstrations to signify how the names of black women killed by law enforcement should be voiced and remembered.
I included the public's point of view within the film "Voices of the Unheard". Throughout the video I showcased people from around the world fighting for the justice of black women killed by police through the pictures of protests. I explained how BLM brought awareness to the issue as well.

APT: After Project Thoughts
During the research process of this project, I stumbled across a quote that deeply resonated with me. I decided to leave off with this quote for I feel as though it properly brings project 2 to a close:
“It is shown all throughout history how black women are constantly out here on the front lines, yet we are treated as disposable.
We are at the planning tables.
We are creating real solutions.
We are confronting the police.
We are challenging the status quo.
We have your backs during protest and outside of protest.
But, if y'all don't have us...
then who does?"
~Jamie A. Triplin
